Advanced storage techniques is a special racial ability that gives you 120% more facility space on a planet. Since this applies to your homeworld, having this is a HUGE advantage...especially in the beginning. Although it is also quite costly in points.
Given its over-powered nature, some people want to ban it. What do people think?

I voted for banning because I don't think the point cost balances the massive facility advantage, especially the research facility on the HW advantage.

I don't remember, did Kaar ban it last game? I was actually wondering this the other day...

I can't remember either. I know that no one took it last time.

I am using this now in my test game, I like the idea and it seems good but I have no clue as to how balanced it is. I'll let the hivemind determine if it is OP or not.

I'd definitely say its balanced, since you can get the 120% across the board bonus "manually" via characteristics for about 2500 points...

With AST, the bonus you get is pretty damn huge. Right off the bat, you're going to be getting a lot more resources and research points then anyone else. Speaking from the experiences of our last game, it took a good few hundred turns before any off-world colonies started to truly approach the wealth and power of the home world. While it does cost an incredible amount of racial points, I'm also not sure it's still quite balanced enough.
The other thing to factor in is the facilities that give bonuses on total planetary production. While yes, you can get that blanket bonus with a bucket of race creation points, the larger capacity on your planet is going to be more then just 20% due to bonuses from 'buffing' facilities such as computer complexes or the City facilities that proportions adds.

Aside from the extra space for population, you can replicate AST's resource and research bonus for nearly half the points.
Of course, you could try to take both AST and invest points into resources and research, but you won't have enough points to pull both off without sucking at everything else and not taking any other special abilities. This is a major drawback given how powerful advanced propulsion is in the latest version of proportions mod.

Damn you Tmsus! I now need to hurridly pore over the propulsion techs now!
...and here I thought I figured out everything.
