With the release of the expansion Rajas of India, they've put the base game on sale for 10$. For 20$ you can get the game and the first four major DLC (Republic, Sunset Invasion, Sword of Islam & Legacy of Rome) along with a few neat additions like the ruler designer and better unit and sound packs. Not essential, particularly if you just want to do multiplayer.
Hosted games will allow you to use any DLC enabled by the host, even if you don't have it.
Anyway, highly recommend picking it up.
Particularly since they brought over steamworks code for multiplayer, which hopefully gets rid of any desync issues with multiplayer. I've been putting off hosting a game until they fixed it. Might give it a shot now.

Yeah, I looked at the prices for Ck2. SOmething like $9 for (90%) of all the game impacting DLC(Old Gods, ETC). Also, if you go go for the DLC pack, which is again missing old gods(but that's on sale for $3.24) you can get literally 98% of the DLC for $16 This is missing Sons of Abraham(which adds the Jewish religion and a couple Jew related things) and the new expansion(rajas of india) for super duper cheap. I am a huge fan of CK2(over 90 hours and that's /one game/. Admittedly that one took a long time because it was my first and I did a bit of save scumming, but 30+ hours in a game isn't unheard of!)

Very good, but it has a style that might not be for everyone.
Basically it's a feudalism and linage simulator. Lots of fun and strange and weird and ruthless things can happen at any moment. It takes a while to get used to, but the beauty in the game is that war is not the point... rather building diplomatic and familial relations is often more effective than waging war in order to expand your domain.
I once saw a rebel peasant take over northern germany as the ruler of a bishopric who later became the pope.
Another time, I specifically fostered and funded the claim of a possessed spanish islamic woman so that she could take control of southern france in order to destablize europe and make good on my own vassal claims on the many provinces there.
If that sounds like fun, then you'd probably enjoy it. It does have a bit of a learning curve though, as figuring out the systems and how to protect yourself from sudden warfare or assassinations is tricky at first.

Yes, it has a /very/ steep learning curve. However, it is very surmountable(especially with folks who will help, like me and I assume Norak Schism). It's wicked fun and heavily "RP" based, best "RP" game I can think of. I recently had ireland create the empire of alba (and most of france). It's a heavy, intensive thought game(there /can/ be a lot of planning regarding lineages. Who you marry, your children, etc all can have extreme impacts on the game). I would heartily recommend it if you're even the slightest interested. Right now the sale is going on and it's super cheap.

We should organize a multiplayer game. Universal Edifice and I play as well.

I'll set one up for uhh saturday during the day?, I'd say we'd need a good three hours to get a decent session in. I'll find & set up a ventrillo server, if you guys want to do voice chat during the game.
I'm not sure what time zone everyone is in, but ideally, for me, noon to 4 pm this saturday (mountain standard time). Aim for a 1pm start time, and anyone who shows early can help set things up and get connected.
