I would ask that you please consider not using random events altogether. Though they were balanced in the vanilla game, reduced reproduction and production penalties based in population in the mod caused these events to have a far greater consequence. A very minor earthquake could kill at least some 50M people and since success in this mod rest in a large part in micromanaging population among colonies it could cripple any empire having ripple effects for the rest of the game.
Random punishment is seldom fun.
Also, medium technology will start all the players halfway through the tech tree. I would also refrain from using it.

Hey Heber!
Point taken on random events, i'll turn it off for the reason you mentioned.
As for medium technology, its not true that this puts players halfway through the tech-tree. If you start a game with "medium" technology, you will notice it only gives you a couple very basic techs. For instance: level 1 Missiles, level 1 Leaser Beams, level 1 projectile weapons, level 1 industry, level 1 ship construction, level 1 propulsion...in total about 30 really basic mostly level 1 techs, just enough to allow you to build something from the start. Not halfway through the tech tree...maybe 1% at the most. As such, i prefer to start with "medium"...but if it is the consensus of the group that even this is too much to start off from, I will gladly start from "low" for the main game.
What does everyone think?

I'm fine with whatever starting tech. Lower level means a longer game, of course, but hey. There'd be /some/ level of technology for a starting race, but I'm not particular with the starting levels of either level.

I prefer to start with low as it puts off a lot of rushes and plenty can be built off of low right away. I have also been practicing starting from low.

I tend to think low is better, but if it's only a smattering of level 1 techs, I'm not against the idea.
29 levels of completed on Medium, 16 levels of tech completed on Low. Seems a very minor increase.

I apologize for the wrong information. Perhaps medium technology level did that in some other mod and I assumed it would do so in Proportions too.
As Proportions games tend to take a very long time, I would rather use the medium tech level and have meaningful turns from the start.

If events are set to none, we should either forbid the "Cursed" racial trait that increases the chance for bad events. If theres none, it will give 666 racial points for no effect in game. Either everyone take it or no one do it.
Advanced Storage Techniques and Restricted Planetary Exploitation also can give a major advantage/restriction.

We should definitely outlaw the cursed racial trait with events turned off. I think it will be a good idea to also outlaw advanced storage techniques. It is a major advantage in proportions and not much RP value.

That's a good point, nobody can use cursed with no events on. I think Norak will be upset if you ban advanced storage techniques...

We just have to decide if Advanced storage techniques is good for balance reasons. It does have a massive point cost. Do the other veterans believe that this point cost is balanced?

2000 points is the same as almost +30% research or +15% combat. Seems to be in line with the physical characteristics and other bonus'.
