In the Council hall, an elliptical ring of LEDs contouring the perimeter of the ceiling shone a vivid stream of fluorescent light down on the round table in the centre of the room. Illuminated below were the shapes of the 'The Seven' whose metallic grey robes flowed like quicksilver; very much akin to the minds of the men who wore them. Widely known but seldom seen, Thalon's Select Council had convened in the middle of the night to discuss what action should be taken amidst reports that mass slaughter was being perpetrated on a colossal scale far to the north.
"Their cries for mercy fell on deaf ears. It is clear we're confronted with a species without any conscience," atoned Valoric Thal Council chair. "Their dark deeds cast a long shadow on the galaxy."
Valoric narrowed his eyes and contemplated deeply on how quickly the violence had erupted in the past cycle. Turning his attention to the slim figure with aquiline features seated opposite him at the table, Valoric asked Nimar the Sage of the latest developments with regards to an alliance with the Edifice.
Nimar weighed his words carefully. "As you're all aware our diplomatic emissaries have been engaged in talks with senior Awaza for the last few months to negotiate the terms of a defensive alliance and late this evening both parties finally reached an agreement on the draft."
His words elicited nods from the Council. Opening a sleek black attaché case, Nimar removed six single sheets of paper and handed out copies to the others. Six sets of eyes flickered back and forth scanning the contents of the page as each digested its contents. After a few minutes silence, Valoric gazed around the table, cleared his throat and addressed the men.
"The time has come to decide whether an alliance is in the best interests of our Empire and its people. Careen what say you?"
"Aye."
"Theo?"
"Aye."
"Lucius?"
"Aye."
"Immolun?"
"Aye."
"Rossoir?"
"Aye."
"And you Nimar?"
"Aye, sir."
"Then the matter is settled. Inform the Commander he has been granted signing authority to bind the agreement. Meeting adjourned."
