[OOC: Schism homeworld was wiped out a few turns before I joined up to replace H11F so I don't know the exactly what happened. I suppose it can be chalked up as fog of war. Apparently the Imperial Hegemon did lose some ships in defending the Schism Homeworld and it seemed like a decent event to write little bit of RP.]

First Peacekeeping Operational Fleet, or 1 PKO, was the first real venture of the Imperial Hegemon Navy outside of the more or less secure confines of the Home System. Under the command of Fleet Admiral Malik Olmert, 1 PKO was sent toward the Schism Homeworld following the 1st Hierarchy-Schism War to ensure transition to peaceful relations between the two former combatants. As we know, this was not to be the case and 1 PKO was almost completely wiped out in the battle for Praxis Verdantis Prime, the Norak Homeworld. This piece seeks to shed some light upon its demise. Adding a human touch to otherwise perhaps dry piece of Imperial history are excerpts from some of the few survivors of the 1 PKO... … ...
The new assignment turned out to be an interesting one! Laser Beam Section Leader on IHMS Abidan might not be the best post in the Fleet for a CPO, it sure doesn't have the best perks or the best pay... But to be part of 1 PKO, definetly something to tell the grandkids about. Apparently the Hierarchy had given the Schism pretty good kicking in the war and now there's to be peace... with us in the middle. Command says it's likely to last as everyone wants to get back to business as usual. Trade links and all the usual jabberdabber... lets just hope they are right.

… … ...Together with IHMS Oasis, IHMS P. E. Balaca and IHMS Stanley, the Abiban was in the first row of ships in the fleet when Keshek attack began. After a short exchange of fire it was hit by several missiles and, having lost maneuver capabilities and leaking atmosphere, the the captain was forced to order the ship to be abandoned. Similar fate soon befell rest of the ships as well and, from the aformentioned four ships, only seven others, and CPO M'Bekele, reached their lifepods in time to evacuate. The loss of four vessels in such a short amount of time left Admiral Olmert little choice but to commit what few reserves he had to battle, however they proved unable hold the tide of the heavily armed Keshek vessels... … …
I don't know what the hell the High Command was thinking when the designs for our ships were approved. Against the volley of missiles our opponent was able to lug at us we had no effective countermeasures... Point defense systems were completely inadequate to stop such numbers and armor structures of our ships were unable to take all those hits from missiles that did get through. Before Admiral Olmert ordered us to leave the bridge and abandon ship I overheard him fuming at the inability to do anything meaningful against our opponent... not that he would've said such a thing straight to HC of course, even when the ship was going down. Stubborn old basterd...

The lights of battle do look strangely serene from a distance. If it weren't for the fact that every flash of light meant something terrible had just happened, it would've been outright beautiful. Me and the three other guys who'd made it to the pod had been floating out there for perhaps an hour and the battle had already wound down a while earlier. Most of our ships that I had previously been able to spot were either motionless or in pieces and the remaining enemy vessels appeared to be moving toward the Schism homeworld, they must've... I don't think anyone was expecting them to blast it to bits like they did. Maybe they figured the Norak would be pissed enough to come back at them regardless, and decided to pre-empt such from happening for good... who knows. Not to sound callous but all we cared about back then was getting picked up by friendlies instead of ending up as PoWs. Or worse. I suppose we were lucky to have that scout ship find us two days later...

… … … Yes, the first large scale battle of the IHN had proven to be a disaster. Yes, the numerous disadvantages in both doctrine and gear vis-a-vis Keshek Hierarchy were obvious to even the most unqualified of observers. However, this was not to be the end. Following the merciless destruction of the Norak Schism Homeworld other races of the other races in the quadrant began to... … …
