Follow this link to download the current, updated proportions version: Proportions 3.2.0Version Notes: -Increased the costs of the maintenance, space yard rate and intelligence values in the race creation screen. Maintenance is now hard capped at 150%. -Greatly reduced the amount of points returned by reducing physical strength and cunning below 90% -Reduced the amount of maintenance granted by the Merchants trait to 10% -Fixed the propulsion experts bug -slightly changed the supply usage of engines to change with each level of engine. This is not the final version as I am looking for feedback, especially when it comes to balancing character creation. The theory I was working for was to allow every empire to access the maximum values if wanted, but over stacking of a trait would lead to specializing in that particular trait. Please play it and provide your thoughts. I will work on improved character numbers when I have time.

Both Universal Edifice and Myself will be indisposed for the rest of the weekend at least. We will likely not be sober or have coherent access to the internet for this time. I will be back at playing with the math behind the points after that time.

Looks good. Costs are extremely prohibitive for maint reduction past 110. I suspect we'll see a lot of people cap it at that. Not impossible to minmax up to 150+10(merchants), but basically have to nuke everything else to idiot-child levels. Approval!

Yeah, I think getting it to 140+ is still a very viable option, and even the 150+10 isn't super un balanced due to the seemingly exponential nature of it. It only became super super powerful 180-200 last game. One thing I was thinking about was, the space reduction trait. While I understand it is very very powerful, it just seems a little bit too expensive. But that is merely commenting and it is most certainly better to leave it as is then to tweak it.

I am trying to get away with doing as few changes as necessary, so I will not be touching the space reduction trait. People have done the cost benefit analysis before and found it a little weak point wise, but it is also extremely overpowering if left too cheap. We will just leave it weak point wise as it is.

I agree with not touching the points costs of the Space Reduction ability. It's good at the start, giving you an initial boost at the expense of your other skills. Late-game when you have developed several rich colonies it will shine again, but mid game is where the point cost will really be felt. It also makes for a very fluffy and flavourful part of your race creation! Why is your face good at staking things so tight? Are you a very space race? Is there very little usable space on your home world? Do you just really, really like apartments?

Hi everyone, you can all breathe a sigh of relief and carry on - I have returned Tomorrow I'll be testing Aalien's new version of proportions, followed by the setting of a new launch date for the game. So everyone, this is the time to loop in any new players you are thinking of, touch up on your race ideas/back stories, etc.

I've tested the changes, they seem good. The racial point cost modifications unfortunately, at least on the face of it all, remove some diversity. But I consider it well worth it, given that it makes truly cheezy min/maxing builds extremely hard to do.
