A Captain's Rash Actions

Sonus put his datapad down and squeezed the bridge just above his beak. A familiar throbbing had started behind his eyes and he knew the headache that he was getting would follow him all day. With a small sigh he pushed up to his feet and then turned to head into the Triarch common rooms. As he opened the doors he could see his fellow leaders already seated at the common table working over their own morning reports. Verra looked up and saw his expression and with a slight raising of his eye ridges spoke "Not having a pleasant morning Sonus?" The gryphon shook his head and said "Exploration report came in last night. Apparently one of our ships had an encounter with another species in the early hours." Sonus slipped into his usual chair as Rakkus placed a cup of hot tekla before him. Taking a long sip the gryphon bolstered himself with the stimulant before he continued. "Rather than follow the strict training we gave them, they panicked a the sight of another ship. They opened fire on them." Rakkus and Verra blinked at him before finally Rakkus spoke "And the outcome?" Sonus swallowed another sip before he replied "The other ship was destroyed. It didn't even fire back, i'm not entirely sure it was even armed." Verra looked stern as he looked at Sonus "This is what all that training was supposed to help avoid. Did I not encourage that our exploration ships be lightly armed if at all?" Sonus shot an irritated glance back at Verra "We've been over this before. I'm not splitting the resources that we have between war ships and exploration ships. Defensively armed is all we needed. And apparently it worked to some extent."



Rakkus let out a sigh as he said "Don't you two start arguing. We have enough to do with this incident to let ourselves get caught up trying to point blame. The crew will be disciplined for rash actions, the captain held responsible." He smiled ironically to his fellows "We know our weapons work, now we need to make sure we only point them at enemies. I will prepare a statement to those we took down. Not the way I wanted to open a diplomatic interaction but this is how our story has been written. Sonus, get your crews under control. And can you forward me everything that you have on the ship and people we took down? I'll need to make sure that this is done..tactfully."



Sonus and Verra rose as Rakkus did. All three heading to their own work areas to start on the events of the day. Sonus couldn't help being a pace or two slower as he reached his station. This was going to be a long day.
