I've been reviewing predestination information and it seems the most promising of all the listed games. It is due to enter alpha/beta/early release at any moment now and promises to be the only game which has all of the requirements. It also comes out in early release format fairly soon. It seems to have more depth than SE4 (in depth and micromanagement ability) and also is pretty much the ONLY 4x that will have a PBEM style of turn play we can fit into a long epic game like this one. Everything else about it just appears to be fantastic, and the game is designed with modding in mind. Excited! Given the length of SEIV games, predestination may be out by the time we are done with this one.

I thought we were approaching the point at which we restart No, we need to play until I win a war. That's the rule. www.predestinationgame.com/This really does sound really promising. Custom ship design, but also much more opportunity to have unique colonies, which was one of the original reasons for the development of proportions, I think.
