The following is presented in a new form of communication for those of the Diamond Empire. Previous to this there was no written language--all was passed through tactile tradition. The following, however, is a faithful rendition of the Litany of war which was previously danced among many other celebrations:
War is like rain; one cannot run from it. War is like rain; one must devise the proper defense. War is like rain; one cannot always predict where it will come. War is like rain; one must be prepared. War is like rain; it falls on the just and the wicked alike.
A blacksmith should make no weapon for which he has not yet devised an armor. He will bear the guilt for developing such a weapon. A Warrior, likewise, should not fight in ways that he could not defend against. He will bear the guilt for developing such a strategy.
If he kills the unarmed he will bear the guilt for such a strategy. If he attacks the unprepared, he will bear the guilt for such a strategy. If he lays traps, he will bear the guilt for such a strategy. If he kills a leader unfairly, he will bear the guilt for such a strategy. If he poisons his enemy, he will bear the guilt for such a strategy.
He who invests in a weapon without armor is like a leaf before the wind. He who invests in armor without a weapon is like an oak before a gentle breeze--he will have no cause for shame when the wind blows. The tiniest needle can then defeat the greatest foe.
