PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Average Height: 3-7 meters(changes depending on whether they stand upon their tentacles or not)
Average Weight: 54kg
Average Lifespan: Varies.
Goetian's are many tentacled, amorphuous creatures, their physiology allowing them to manuever inside gas giants with ease. Each tentacle is entirely self-sufficient, each tentacle capable of absorbing the energetic particles ejected from radioactive isotopes. While the number of tentacles each Goetian has varies quite a bit, there is a single tentacle that dwarfs the rest of them. This tentacle is described as the "Prime" or the "Eersti". The remaining tentacles are called 'Swak'. The rest of the form is filled with pockets of hydrogen, each pocket capable of releasing its contents in a quick burst to propel the Goetian in a direction. However, as a result of the many bubbles inside of it, the Goetian is fragile and the hydrogen can be excited easily enough.
Parts of the Goetian are completely self-sufficient, a necessity when dealing with differing temporal processes. Too great a difference unchecked difference could lead to a Goetian being ripped apart by time differentials, so the body developed means of taking care of itself by ensuring the local differentials were not too great. Each tentacle never stops growing and the Goetian body itself, never stops growing new tentacles.
The Goetian's were born on an unusual gas giant, a focal point where time and space merged differently than the rest of the known universe. This created an unusual trait, time would change based on the height of the Goetian. The higher up they went, relative to those lower in the gravity well, would think faster.
The Goetian's possess two sexes. The Caretaker and the 'Myslitel'. The caretaker is responsible for birth and raising the 'Gesin'. Most of the society is caretakers. The Myslitel are some of the tentacles that have been removed from a caretaker, usually by tumultuous storms that rage on gas giants. Most lose tentacles are destroyed, but a few of the already-independently-living tentacles survive long enough to grow and mutate. Unburdened by the physical need to care for young, but burdened by a subtle need to be useful to its caretaker, Myslitel wander about, thinking and planning on how to ensure the survival of its caretaker. Should the two sexes reunite, the Myslitel will implant its learned information into the Caretaker, seeding the Caretaker with its genetic information as well. This process is called "Reunification".
A clutch of 10-30 Goetians are born in the slow, calm realms of the bottom of a gas giant, then rapidly dragged through the layers to create temporal pathways in their "brains". This process is called "The Formulating". A single tentacle is grabbed and the 'Gesin' is pulled by this tentacle, 'the Eersti', upwards through the gas giant. This results in an unusually large tentacle, often times stronger and more deeply attached to the Gesin, ensuring the young creature always has a tentacle to rely on for feeding and manipulation.
Goetian's lifespan is directly related to how many 'Myslitel' return from their wanderings. Since the 'Myslitel' will be larger, they are each capable of supporting the Caretaker much more readily. The more that return, the longer the lifespan of the Goetian.
SOCIETY
Goetian society is built around the principles of calmness, patience, and pondering. This is a direct result of the 'Myslitel' birth process. The return of the 'Myslitel' often times results in a Caretaker who can see the larger picture, that of the protection of their entire society instead of their young. Should sufficient Mystlitel return, the Caretaker Goetian is crowned with a title, Consul. This is a title of great reverence, indication that the Goetian's Mystlitel are particularly strong and capable.
However, every Goetian is ruled by a single Caretaker who possesses the title Imperator. This Caretaker is not chosen by the birth, or by contest, but by an unusual event that happens only on their home planet. Sometimes a large, temporal storm will strike the gas giant, breaking off many Eersti from a Caretaker. These Eersti wander through the storm, the temporal rifts granting the already large and capable tentacles thoughts and visions of the future, guiding them towards a single Caretaker. There the Eersti attach to a new caretaker, now composed of many Eersti. The new Imperator is wiser, smarter, stronger, and healthier than the rest of the Goetians. Guided by the visions of the Temporal Rifts, the Imperator leads the Goetians towards its purpose.
The rest of the society falls into a unified vision. While there are many individual Caretakers, each is guided by the vision of the Imperator, each contributing where it can.
HISTORY
The Goetian's were once composed of several unruly leaders, each vying to conquer the other. However, an asteroid struck the gas giant and launched a plume of livable material onto a nearby moon. There the not-yet first Imperator Alloces floated upwards bringing with it a mass of Eersti and Swak carried by the plume. There The Caretaker ruminated for many time cycles, pondering the future and combining with the tentacles, growing in wisdom and intelligence. Some four hundred years later, another asteroid struck the gas giant, sending another plume to the moon. The wisest of the Goetian's returned, likening all of Goetia to its Gesin. Using its great Wisdom and Vision, the Imperator melded the disparate Gesin together into the governmental body of one Caretaker.
From that point on, the Goetian's worked together under the guidance of the Imperator, first by establishing the Moon of Its Origin as a palace for thought.
