This is a copy of an email I sent out to all the players, I am posting it here for anyone who missed it, as well as posterity and public record:
Hello everyone, Nick here, your host for the epic RP proportions game. I have uploaded the game file, which means we are officially started! You can download your turn file straight from PBW. Put it into your savegame folder in your proportions mod folder, do your turn, and upload the ensuing file to PBW. If you have any troubles, let me know.
A few important things need to be touched on at this point. First of all, a big thank you to Kyle (Aalien Empire) for all his work making this happen. This game was his idea, he recruited me, he worked really hard on tweeking the map settings, and much more...he deserves a big thank you! I also would like to say that we have a really exciting role playing game here, with everything from an interstellar trading federation to a computer program to an insect noble's republic to frightening reptilian warriors to space gryphons and beyond!
Third, on a serious note, I want to reiterate and stress for everyone, although wars, violence, conquests and even genocides are a natural part of the game, this is a noob friendly, non-rush-out-of-the-gate ROLE PLAYING game. If you just min-max your racial points towards zerg rushing everyone, don't write up a race description, don't participate on the forums, and don't RP...I will kick you from the game. I will not jeopardize the enjoyment of the game, particularly for the many new players we have, by such a situation.
Now, with that out of the way, I want to touch on a few other points:
1. I will use this email list for game related stuff. If you would like a different email, let me know.
2. If a player does drop from the game, its bad form to just rush in and conquer his empire afterwords, since we may be able to find a willing replacement player. Obviously, this does not apply if the player drops while you are in the process of conquering him...
3. The first turn of the game is really important, especially because you have a 100,000 research point bonus that will vanish if you dont use it on your first turn. So make sure to invest it. For this and other reasons, I will NOT put a timer on the first turn; I don't want anyone to miss it.
HOWEVER, after the first turn, I will put the game on a 24 hour timer. You will have 24 hours to get your turn in. This is not a high bar, because for the first couple dozen turns, your turn will literally take 30 or less to do. A few turns you're just going to click "end turn." Its not exciting at first, but trust me it will pick up once we get into the 30th or 40th turn.
When things start to pick up, I will move to a 48 hour or 72 hour timer. If you think you might miss a turn, make sure you give advanced orders to your build queues and your ships. IF for whatever reason you cannot get your turn in on time and the turn is critical such that you cannot get by on advanced orders/queues, let me know asap, and I'll hold things up for you.
Also, make sure you turn the empire ai off, otherwise if for whatever reason you miss your turn, the ai will make up its own orders...and trust me, you don't want that.
I think that's about it for now. Good luck everyone and see you in game
