Etem Haakonsson runs over his cue cards one last time. This is one speech that he has been dreading ever since he heard the news. His father had been a good, strong leader, stubborn, but strong. He had been suppressing the recent advances in engine technology that will be revolutionary for the entire Aalien Race. Rasmus Alexandersen’s voice suddenly broke his train of thought.
“Keep this speech short and simple. Just focus on the good he did for the Aalien people and how all the people will miss him. Also remind them that we will spare no resource to find the masterminds behind this tragedy.”
“I know, I just have to follow the cue cards.” Etem hurriedly replied as he did not want to talk to any of his advisors at a time like this. He walked out towards the balcony and paused before the curtain. He put his cue cards back into his pocket and walked through the curtains.
An extremely large crowd of approx. 300,000 filled the squared to capacity below. Plenty of video cameras were pointed directly at him so that the rest of the planet can watch his first address. The damage from the attack could still be seen in the distance. As he reaches the podium, he reaches into his pocket to grab the cue cards. He brushes them, then leaves them there. The crowd dies down has he starts.
“Thank you all for coming.” The Crown noise died right down. “My father was a great man. He was taken from us far too early and he will be missed. I promise that my administration will spare no expense to find the masterminds behind this attack and bring them to justice.” The crowd was brought to a low cheer.
“Let’s not dwell on that fact. Let us celebrate his legacy and finish what he started. Many years ago, he started us down the path to the development of engines and related technology that will allow us to explore the stars. We have now finished the final tests and are ready to construct our first full size prototype. I see massive potential for all of us in this technology, and to support this, my first act as Emperor will be to throw the entire weight and resources of the throne into the further development of this technology. We will expand the quotas in the schools, as we will need more educated workers than ever before. We will Explore the stars, Exploit their Resouces and for the first time in 1500 years, Expand our borders!” The crowd rose up in a massive roar at this line.
Etem turned and went back through the curtains. As he walked back into his chamber he dreaded the coming meetings with his advisors due to his early revelation of this secret technology.

A Notification appeared on his personal Computer. He quickly read it and then focused back on the meeting of his council.
“Meetings with the Norak Schism and the Keshek Hierarchy are going well. We expect formal borders to be established soon. Trade is already flowing well and boosting our production and research.” Etem’s foreign advisor said, filling in the others on the developments.
“ Very good, keep up the negotiations until you have a treaty that I can sign.” Etem Replied. “Let’s move on to the report on the new colonization report.”
“We have just finished colonizing Kraz VI with another ship heading to Kraz IV. Facilities are now under construction as planned on Kraz VI and we will have population transports for future colonists ready soon.” His internal advisor filled him in.
“Excellent, Next we will have to expand beyond our home system. Now for the important news of the day. The A.S.S. Adventure was attacked and brutally destroyed by a race known as the Imperial Hegemon. I do not know why anyone would attack an unarmed, science vessel that was not aggressive, but we need to determine the appropriate response….

Etem looked out at his council as they debated how best to manage the governance of the new colonies. He knew that he would have to make a decision soon on how best to structure the government to efficiently manage these colonies, but today was not the day. The discussion was starting to die down, “Let’s move on to foreign affairs”
His foreign minister started. “The Imperial Hegemon has followed through and transferred us the vessel IHDC Recompence. It matches our required specifications and they have given us permission to continue on our exploration mission through their space.”
“Did you forward on our invitation to open up trade between our two empires?”
“Yes, they received the request and hope that it can be the start to a closer trading relationship.”
“So do I” Etem had enough enemies to worry about. “This brings us to our last item. The Keshek Heirarchy’s reluctance to remove themselves from the Mintaka and Ursula systems is a continuing issue. On top of that, they have sent a ship heading to the warp point to our home system. What are everyone’s thoughts on this situation?”
“The foreign ministry still believes that the Keshek Heirarchy will still listen to a stern warning and turn back” The foreign minister replied first not sounding confident in the least.
“What about our borders! What about our rights!” Grand Admiral Karl Mattias roared back, slamming his fist on the table. “We have had enough talk with these invaders. It is time we show them our muscle and push back”
The council broke out in a jumbled roar as everyone debate rigorously. Etem sat back and soaked it all in while he made his decision. He slammed his fist into the table to get everyones attention and they immediately quieted down. “I have made my decision. This time, I’m afraid, we have to side with Karl and we will push them out of our borders. How long will it take to clear our space?”
Some murmurs started to take form from several of the council members. “Using our ships currently stationed in Mintaka, we can clear that system this month. Ursula will take a short time longer.” Karl Mattias replied over the background noise.
“What are our projected losses?”
“Military intelligence estimates that even though their ships are larger, ours will be faster, more powerful and have a longer range. This should give us an advantage which will minimize casualties.”
“Good, Make it so.” Etem Concluded the meeting on that note.
