There's a new city builder game called Banished coming out early next week that I'd recommend. Inspired heavily by Dwarf Fortress (which I'd also recommend). Imagine a more complex simcity with a real and complex economy at work. And a real strong possibility that if you make mistakes you're going to starve your people and have to restart a new city. Real consequences! Also the game is pretty gorgeous too. Banished:www.shiningrocksoftware.com/Dwarf Fortress:www.bay12games.com/(use this modpack to play, it makes the game a lot easier to get into. Banished looks really cool. As for DF, I've tried to get into it, but the UI was just too much for me to really enjoy. I've seen that there are some people working to make it so you can actually control it from stone sense which seems really promising. A Dwarf Fortress clone that I really enjoy is Gnomoria gnomoria.com/ It is still being developed and can be picked up in sales or bundles for almost nothing. Currently 7.99 and its steam historic low was 1.99. Considering how well its development has gone so far it really could be the DF that DF should be.

See, I am not usually bugged by such a UI; however, as I have NO CLUE what is going on... I had to give up on it. I started Aurura (spelling? I dunno, I'm sure you know what I mean though) a little while ago and it seemed good, but exponentially complex. I figure if I was to invest more time into it it would definitely be worthwhile!
Now, I will look into this Banished game as I loved the OLD SimCity.

Yeah Banished looks to be much harder than old simcity though. Simcity 4 was a disaster - this might redeem my hope for the future of city simulations. Outside of the brilliance of DF. =)

By SimCity 4, you mean "SimCity" (SimCity 5). SimCity 4 is actually quite good once you get a couple of mods and the expansion installed. It is just 10+ years old now.
We don't talk about that other newer one. It haunts too many people's memories.

I spent a LOT of time playing SE4! Really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I haven't heard a single good thing about SC5, except that perhaps it is going to be released as an offline game eventually. I heard that the city limit size was even reduced... disappointing.
