One of the best grand strategy games I've ever played. It moves away from a wargame and focuses on intrigue and diplomacy. The wrong (or right) marriage might get you land just as easily as forging some fake claims on a province. There's so much in this game and it create some really amazing stories and situations.
Very different than a space 4x, but it's still in the same vein. It's also on steam sale right now!

I've probably sunk more time into Crusader Kings II than any other game in the past 5 years...except for europa universalis. I raged so hard when I discovered the converter they released between CK II and EUIV only works if both games were bought from the same source....and I got one on steam, one on Gamersgate. So I stopped playing in rage until I break down and buy one of the games a second time...

I think Space Empires and Paradox Games catter to the same player base. I've been playing it since Europa Universalis II. One day some 10 years ago I was supposed to get my wife (then girlfriend) at the bus station as she had just arrived from another city. I was so addicted to the game I kept playing untill the last minute and then had to flash through the city to get there on time. Got my first transit ticket that day.
Played Europa Universalis II, III and IV. Crusader Kings I and II. Hearts of Iron II and III and Victoria I and II.
The only one that never got me interested was Rome. I guess the time period doesnt appeal to me.

In Europa Universalis and Crusader Kings I pretty much only ever play as Byzantium...I kind of have a thing for the Eastern Roman Empire, or the Roman Empire in general...

CKII makes for great internet + skype (or LAN) multiplayer. This could be something to do at some point when a few of us have an afternoon to burn off. I'd suggest a good eight hours for each century of in-game play time. Could split it up into smaller groupings too.

I'd be down with CKII...although I never really liked the idea of playing without the ability to stop the game...I like stop, do stuff, then let the game run....almost turning it into a turn-based experienced haha. I could be convinced to at least give it a try; I assume you can't stop the game on multiplayer, everything just runs real-time on a certain speed?

One player controls the speed and each player can hit pause and lock the game in a standstill for 30 seconds at which the other players can resume the action. You can also ramp up the speed, but from what I can tell it's best to play on 2 or 3 to start and then 1 or 2 as you go through. Makes for a different game to be sure, but still quite fun. If something big happens, like a marriage take-over of an existing kingdom, or a successful crusade that grants lots of new land you can just ask for a longer pause to sort it out.

Sorry to dredge up an old thread but count me in for a Cruseder Kings 2 multiplayer at some point.

Nah, old is like bumping a post from the 90's. I did that once.
Anyway, I was hoping we'd get more interest at some point!

I might have to buy and figure out the game. Play as a Byzantine vassal and annoy your liege with requests for titles and kingdoms.
